| no partners | | With everything on fire or closed near me, I opted for a quick hike in the Goldfields. It's been a long time since I hiked up this one. The trail is really easy to follow once you get off the jeep road that takes you to the base. I started later than I wanted, but I was still able to get up to the top and back down before it got too hot.
Once I made it to the saddle, I could see the smoke from the Bush Fire filling up the entire area at the base of Four Peaks. I was getting some burning smells up there as well. The winds must have shifted as the smoke went from Rio Verde all the way deep into the Superstitions. What a crappy couple of fire seasons we've had. Two of my favorites wilderness areas have basically been roasted.
The hike up to the top was the usual steep and slippery fun, but it's not that bad of a venture. Someone has brought up a couple of metal patio chairs, that was kinda unexpected. I signed the registry, took in the views, snapped a few pictures and started back down.
I saw one guy on horseback on the way in and two hikers along Cactus Rd on the way out. Other than that, I saw no one and did not even hear the usual buzzing of 4x4's and motorcycles either. A nice way to spend a Saturday morning. |
