I checked the calendar and discovered that I hadn't hiked in almost 7 weeks! 🤯 Work and other obligations kept me away from the mountains and canyons. And we had Rim-to-Rim coming up the following week! We decided to do something moderate with beautiful views, and Wilson Mountain was the perfect choice. I've done Wilson Mountain multiple times, but never from the North Trailhead, so we started from there.

We began at 10am. Temperatures were in the low 80s at the start, which was perfect. It warmed up to the 90s during the ascent, but the trail was well shaded most of the way. A lot more green than expected, with beautiful views of Oak Creek Canyon. We only encountered 3 other groups of people on the ascent. At the top there was a pleasant breeze. The views from the north overlook were incredible as always, except that Humphreys Peak was diminished by smoke or haze in the distance. The views from the Sedona overlook were outstanding as always. We spent over 30 minutes at each overlook taking in the views.

The descent was unremarkable, except that I slid on the loose rocks about 30 times, and actually fell twice. We encountered one couple and a dog on the way down.

Wilson mountain will always be a favorite. The views are amazing, and every time I've gone, there have been few or no people on the trail, despite the parking lot and road being packed. It was an enjoyable day, and we had time to eat afterwards, followed by a trip to the Edge of the World for the evening.

I guess we're ready for our first Rim-to-Rim next week! 😀
