| no partners | | Went up to the Rim this afternoon to explore, relax, and find some fall colors. Stopped at a nice overlook right next to FR300, but the wind was pretty brutal at the edge, with gusts blowing dirt in our faces and trying to throw us off the edge. Headed north to check out Horseshoe Lake, which was dry. Walked along use trails, taking detours whenever we saw a good patch of fall colors. The wind dissipated about 50 meters away from the road. There were multiple patches of maples and aspens, some of which were at peak color, although many of the aspens had already lost their leaves. The smell of the pines was wonderful. Walked along Turkey Creek, which was also dry. We played in the leaves, relaxed, and enjoyed the weather (60s-70s) until the dark clouds moved in and dropped a little rain on us, at which point we looped back around to the car. Good thing one of us usually carries an umbrella! We saw numerous other patches of orange, red, and yellow leaves on the way back to the car, but it's not the same under the dark clouds! |
