| no partners | | I’m not going to sugar-coat it: This was one of the more depressing hikes I’ve been on. It started with a busy trailhead and what appeared to be a massive hiking club starting on Peralta seconds before me. I bailed after 20 steps in search of reasonable solitude and elbow room.
Instead of Bluff Spring, I went with Dutchman for plan B, partially to see how bad the Supersition Fire had been. Well it was bad. Macabre and post-apocalyptic are the two words that best describe what I saw. A valley of stately saguaros has been reduced to graphically-charred skeletons. Even the smell is disturbing. On a positive note, the area to the Northwest of the trail looked better and there was some green sprouting beneath the jojobas and mesquites. Maybe in few years my childhood playground will look better. |
