The trail gives you a short warmup, then wastes no time heading uphill. Steep, with some loose rock, but generally easy to follow. I like the walk across the ridge along the top mile. Great views on both sides, with some fun easy scrambles. We took a snack break at the peak, then headed down. Generally easy hike down, with some slow progress through the steep section. Missed a turn on the trail in the exact same place I missed it last time. I’ll add a waypoint to my track at that spot for future hikes. Some moron was playing with a drone, and flying it a little too close over our heads at times. If I hadn’t been in a National Monument, I may have been tempted to try some target practice. Saw quite a few hikers in the last mile. The desert is much greener down there right now than it is around Phoenix. Fun day, great company, and a perfect 100th peak of the year. |
