I did this hike with TortoiseHiker. We were really blessed again with weather as it was overcast during the entire hike, saving us from the AZ Aug. heat that would have made this hike alot harder. This hike starts up a narrow canyon and then it levels out some while you can enjoy some views across the western portion of the Mazatzals. In the canyon, there is quite alot of water that seems more than seasonal due to the presence of very tall grass and cattails.

If you decide to do this hike, go get the Mazatzal Wilderness topo map from the Forest Service or at REI. It shows some of the unofficial side trails near Marion Spring and at the spot south of there where the two rock cairns are. We did some side exploring at these two areas, which added to the total length of the hike. There seem to be enough of these side trails for reason to return on future exploration.
