We started out at the trailhead at 11:30 with temps in the upper 70's. I was one of 3 or 4 vehicles at the Bullpen parking lot.
This canyon starts right out with stunning views, but it is a lot less narrow than the pictures I have seen. I imagine Bullpen is the wide end of the WCC.
Luna and I crossed the creek twice and turned around at the third creek crossing. I stayed dry by rock hopping, but Luna was incredibly comical trying to copy me jumping from rock to rock. She fell in the water at the first crossing and ended up remembering how to swim on the fly. She was a little bit lethargic from the heat and first hike of the day. The swim put the spring back into her step.
The trail is 100% wide and clear. We saw no one on the way in, but 9 hikers on the way out.
There was a Prius parked when we got back to the lot and I saw a minivan driving in so I guess that gives the all clear for virtually any vehicle. I personally would not drive a sedan on any of these roads.
Looking forward to exploring a few of the entryways into the wilderness further upstream and going deeper into the magical area. |
