Camino Ramanote. Parked at the cattle guard near the huge black and white water tanks and headed to the South. The original play was to head into the canyon on the North side but it was too late and too hot.
Got a really late start and one of the “Roads” I wanted to hike was totally choked with catclaw.
Plan B was the same.
Plan C was a small saddle across a shallow canyon. I don’t know if it classifies as a canyon. It’s probably 50-75 feet deep. Too wide to be a wash. Since it was late and hot this seemed like the best option for the morning.
Very gentle slope to the creekbed. There were lots of pools of water and think this is because the creek bed is bedrock. Halfway down I thought I saw a column and headed that direction. There was less grass this way and it was a lot easier and quicker. It did end up being a column about 15 feet tall.
AND… as it happens so many time… it got more and more interesting the further I went. More balanced rocks and boulders and finally ended up on the edge of a cliff about 40 feet down. And probably 50 yards wide.
Amazing find with all the cool rocks and hideaways.
I think this leads to the canyon below Toruno tank.
No trail here anywhere and ended up coming back a different way and found a huge balanced boulder.
Definitely going back when its cooler because there is hill that looks like a loaf of bread that I’ve put on the backburner.
SPent a lot of time exploring so it looks, again, like I;m a slow poke. |
