It was a windy morning on the mountain, fortunately it stayed above Abineau Canyon for much of my hike! The aspens quaked violently yet beautifully just about the whole trip. Of course, when I hit the avalanche I got pummeled with oh maybe 40 mph gusts and decided to turn back. The trek back down was great, with even better views of the tall aspens, glowing yellow light, not to mention the ground was splashed with aspens leaves. When I do the loop in the summer I prefer going up Abineau and down Bear Jaw, but for the fall I would suggest the other direction. Descending Abineau Canyon was truly magical, and better than I had expected!
