| no partners | | Needed a little exercise after a fabulous Christmas Party Dinner that my former boss had for my family last nite. As my cousin Connie says, "Aren't too many bosses like him!" - especially since technically he is now my former boss (altho I did work a week this summer while his new assistant was out of town). Alexa said it was 56 as I headed out the door.
I parked in the main lot this time and had a plan in mind and for once, I stuck almost to it. I did want to keep practicing elevation. I headed up the Summit Trail and took the left (east) at the 150 post to head over to the higher loop. It's a little dicey in places as you take this route to a bit of a saddle before heading around the east side. Surprisingly, it was nippy in the shade throughout this hike.
I came up the south side of the mountain which isn't the easiest due to trail, plus it goes almost straight up for a bit. I had planned just to go over to the other side but since I was so close to the summit, I went up. Great and clear views today along with some dancing clouds in the sky . I took my new route from the summit down the north side (right) as it seemed not as difficult as coming down the middle.
I took a left when almost down to the bottom of the Summit Trail and then added on a loop around the western humps and the southside of Lookout Mountain. Encountered hikers here and there and a couple dogs. The ground was still slightly wet so no dust getting kicked up and the desert had that wonderful "after the rain" smell.
WATCH: 3.87 miles (2070 high point, 1561 low) avg bpm 134, max 166 (Yep, the heart rate zones have definitely switched: 12% anaerobic (zone 4), 37% aerobic (zone 3) 47% weight control (zone 2) and the rest 4%, low intensity burning 685 calories. Starting temp 55.4 and 33% humidity finishing at 3:35PM |

For me, sometimes it's just as much about the journey as the destination.
Oh, and once in awhile, don't forget to look back at the trail you've traveled. |
