The plans started out big but tapered off to get out before the event traffic kicked in. I decided to visit a few old haunts along the way. The Stewart mine was not fully visible from the top of the Hill. The dugout cabin doesn't really look like much and the CD cabin is some old pots, pans and cans that didn't burn. The Peralta trailhead was half full when I arrived but I didn't see an other hikers until just before the Terrapin junction. The trail is in good shape and the desert is green. There were several campers near Buff Spring and the spring was trickling out of the irrigation tube that is now attached to the end of the pipe. The plan started as an out and back but I decide on the loop to not get behind the backpacker heading out. Barkley basin has some green and although the soldiers are dead, it looks much better than it has on previous post fire trips. I saw several hikers as they strolled up toward Miners Needle. The temperature was perfect as the sun kept you warm and the slight breeze kept you cool. Out before noon and cruised out Peralta road without the normal slow traffic. |
