| no partners | | I skipped out to hike some Supes. I looped CCW starting up the Dutchman trail. I was surprised to see the burn didn't start until Barks Canyon and then it's only on the east side of the trail. That didn't last though and well before the Coffee Flat trail junction the area was consumed. At first it looked like some saguaros would be okay then farther up it seems almost none will make it. This section east of Miners Needle is the worst for the saguaros. On Bluff Spring trail going past Bluff Spring Mountain the area is burned badly too but should come back sooner. The popular campsite in the trees is still there but the trees may not survive. The Spring area burned and the trail to the spring was blocked by a fallen tree but the spring is running at the second break in the pipe. I climbed up to check out the old CD cabin ruin and it's gone. Barks Canyon seems to be the dividing line and the Bluff Spring trail beyond that back to the trailhead is good. It was still a good hike and I was finished before it warmed up. |
