| no partners | | Wanted to check out the Cave Trail again, and view the needle. We decided to make a Balloon out of it. Wanted to avoid the Siphon Draw (I hate that hike) so headed up via the Cave route, so much better views.. A bit more work, but well worth it. We also headed out to the tree at the point in all the photos, and were planning on hitting Fremont Saddle and heading over to the Crosscut trail. Going back from the point I noticed a thin trail that looked like it might allow us to avoid backtracking to get to the trail to the crosscut. Sure enough, it drops down just after the saddle (Fine with me to avoid folks) and off to the cross cut we went.
Initial start on the crosscut section is a little rough, trail is not well marked, but after a little bit a thin trail appears, and it gets easier to follow. Once on the Terrapin intersection it's pretty straight forward. I really like this variation/hike. although there are some sections where the trail gets a little thin, we were able to follow the trail for probably about 95% of the time with the assistance of the GPS. I'll upload the track if anyone wants to follow it. I think this is one of the better hikes in this area, and the extra bonus is that you can avoid the crowds for a good percentage of the hike. |
