| no partners | | When another volunteer and I were checking water sources on Halloween, we decided to add this hike to our schedule. We hiked in a ccw direction. Bluff Spring to Terrapin, then the crosscut trail, back on Peralta.
It’s a fun loop, but cat’s claw can be awful through the crosscut section. It was in better shape than expected. You might still get nicked in the bob and weave sections if you’re wearing shorts and T’s. Dave wore shorts but I didn’t see any blood and heard only a couple of ouches.
The official route down past “the slab of rock on the left” (from Fritski’s guide) that I’d taken before was impeded by a large boulder near the slab. We saw a different route down so we took that instead. The newer route descends a little farther NW before turning back to the south. It’s probably the better route now.
Terrapin can also be a cat’s claw challenge in places but most of those areas have been bypassed in recent years. Terrapin is looking good otherwise. Bluff Spring and Peralta are decent; both are getting some attention in the next couple of weeks.
Fun day but the last few miles felt warmer than the high of 77 I saw in the weather forecast. |
