| no partners | | Headed up to the Sierra Anchas today. Parked at the Murphy Ranch and started down the lower portion of the Reynolds Creek Trail. I hiked this last year and there was a section that was overgrown with New Mexican Locust but was good after that. Not anymore. The lower half of the trail is trashed. Downed trees, New Mexican Locust, and Raspberry bushes are everywhere and destroyed my legs. After a half mile of fighting thorny bushes I came across a huge tree that had fallen across the trail (it was still green). I looked for a way around it that didn't include any bloodshed and there wasn't one. Decided to climb through it. Took some time hopping from branch to branch but I was able to get through. Scared up a couple doe in a meadow area before heading back. Stick a fork in the lower half of this trail it is done. It needs major maintenance before it is a useable trail again. While I was in the area, I decided to drive up to check out the Billy Lawrence TH for a future hike. Drove up, checked out the awesome views and headed back down. Nice cool day, but the wind really picked up and made it pretty hazy. |
