A good amount of cars can probably make it now. 4 vehicles at the TH when I got there just after 9am. As I was walking through the parking lot I wasn't paying attention, slipped on a rock, twisted my ankle and tweaked my knee, all right in of a group of people watching. Great way to start the day! lol. Started off on the Reavis Ranch Trail to the West Pinto Trail and started up. catclaw forest to the corral but after that it was pretty much non existent. Quick stop at the corral and continued on. The fire missed the middle area above the corral as it is a nice lush area full of shade. Once I got above 5,200 feet the vegetation changed to scrub brush with tons of grass. Made it to the top of Iron Mountain pass/divide and took in the views. Hiked across the top of the ridge and found a couple shade trees (spared from the fire) and had lunch. Started my way back down, made a small detour, doing some bushwhacking looking for the old mine near Rogers Spring. After checking out the closed pit area for a few started back down and made it back to the TH. Beside a couple of people in the parking lot, I saw no one else the whole day, which is always a bonus. A bit warm but another great day out in the wilderness. |
