| no partners | | I decided to hike up to a couple of more Oregon P2K peaks today:
1) Mount Isabelle (elevation of 4,494 feet and prominence of 2,294 feet)
2) Mount Bolivar (elevation of 4,319 feet and prominence of 2,479 feet)
I had hoped to hike to some other peaks with a higher elevation, but they had too much snow on them right now.
Mount Isabelle
This one was a road walk, so the hike wasn't all that aesthetically pleasing. There were some nice unobstructed views at the summit, but there were lots of low lying clouds this morning so the views weren't as nice as they otherwise would have been. It was still an enjoyable hike in an area that I have not been to before.
Mount Bolivar
This turned out to be a great hike. The trail is super -- good tread, switchbacks that help mitigate the steepness, interesting vegetation, and great views along the way. There were nice 360 degree views at the summit, although there were clouds off in the distance that limited the range of the views. It is said that on a clear day you can see Mount Hood to the north and Mount Shasta to the south from the summit; perhaps I can go back another time and see if that is the case.
The road to Mount Bolivar was paved all the way, but much of the road is very narrow and curvy, so it will take a while to get there.
Distance and elevation gain for the 2 hikes is below. Stats above are the sum of the 2.
Mount Isabelle: 2.41 miles with an AEG of 1,013 feet
Mount Bolivar: 2.96 miles with an AEG of 1,189 feet
Synopsis
For a road hike, Mount Isabelle was a pretty good hike. However, Mount Bolivar was easily the best hike of the 2. In fact, I would highly recommend hiking it if you are in the area. |

Wildflowers Observation Light There were some interesting flowers to see on both hikes, but they weren't in great abundance. |
