I did not want to wake up at 3am for a sunrise hike, so I opted for a hot hike up Peralta Trail for a sunset. No vehicles in the parking lot when I arrived. I have the trail to myself the entire hike. The shadows and trees gave me some reprieve from the heat and a light cool breeze was nice as well.

The hike up was very quiet, only the sound of my boots crunching on the rocky trail, and of course, my huffing & puffing. I took my usual pictures at my usual spots and made it to the Fremont Saddle. I thought about heading to the Lone Pine, but I opted instead to explore the higher area on the saddle that gives you views of the needle and Peralta Canyon in the other direction.

The sunset was nice, some wispy clouds that turned cotton candy pink for a while. The clouds on the other side presented an issue for my 2nd goal of this hike, some night shots. I hung around the saddle for an hour or so, hoping for a break, but they were moving slow. I started down towards the trailhead.

At the slick rock area below the saddle, the clouds did part, a little. I was able to get a few captures of the Milky Way.

The quiet hike up was a stark contrast to the non-stop chirping and noises that started up once the sun went down. When I had my headlamp on, I attracted every bug from miles around.

A solitary summer hike along one of my favorite trails. In the light or the dark, it's an amazing place for sure.
