| no partners | | Was just in the area last week with Linda and realized it had been quite awhile since I had done a no frills or extras hike to the saddle and back.Wanted to get out and back before the heat kicked in, arrived at Peralta trailhead , 2 cars parked with no activity in the lot until the ranger arrived as I was pushing off. It was a breezy 62° when I arrived and still in the 70’s on leaving. Saw no one else on the trail going up and then a Dad and 2 children when I’m on the way down where the little reroute was done a few years ago. About another dozen coming up before getting back to the trailhead. Tried to keep a steady pace and arrived at my usual view spot above the saddle in 63 minutes, looked it up and in my youth at age 52 I made it up in 46 minutes, so I’m losing a minute a year. That means at age 100 it will take me about 90 minutes just extrapolating . No wildlife seen a few magenta cactus blooms.Carney Springs lot was about full when I went by at about 0830, fair number of campers still along Peralta Road, also near the new homes but before the pavement on 77 there was a 10mph no dust sign |
