| no partners | | Another installment in our Cave Creek wash walking excursions. Galloway Wash is one of if not the largest wash that bisects the town. Don't let the stats of this hike fool you...the entire length we went today was all fluffy and deep decomposed granite. Our ankles and calves got quite the workout.
We hiked west to east starting from near the terminus of the wash where it empties into Rancho Manana Golf Course and Cave Creek proper. We stopped when Cathy cried 'uncle'. I was pooped also. The remainder of the wash to the eastern terminus at the base of Continental Mountain will have to wait to be completed on another hike. We likely could have done it in it's entirety today if we had gone downhill from the east but we wanted at least some AEG.
We stopped and checked out the Desert Awareness Park located within the Galloway Wash Preserve. Very nice place with restrooms, running water, a nature trail with signage for flora, and a beautiful enclosed rotunda housing numerous informative signs and placards. There was also an outdoor amphitheater for lectures. We've been up here 24 years and never knew all this was here. Good place to take the kiddos. |
