While on our Hood Walks around Black Mountain we kept seeing a major wash that has no name. When viewed from Google Earth it stretches from the Carefree side of Black Mountain and flows west across the township and terminates in the Rancho Manana Golf Course before draining into Cave Creek itself through three small branch washes.
Today seemed like a good day for us to explore and hike the length of the wash. We went east to west to have downhill on our side while bush whacking in soft sand and thorny things. We brought gloves and clippers for the catclaw. There were only three times that we had to leave the wash breifly to avoid boulders and overgrowth. The eastern end of the wash was spectacular with RV size boulders and the cloudy sky and fog enhanced the aura and mystique. We stopped at the golf course property line. We ageed to do this again someday but heading uphill to the east to punish our calves. |
