CCW loop in the Cave Creek Regional Park. This was the first hike we ever did when we moved up here from Phoenix in 1999. We used to hike it CW but both the Overton and Go John were routed differently back then.

The Go John used to pass by an open mine shaft with only a warning sign for protection and the Overton was re-routed with a couple of switchbacks around a deep ravine that had a horse skeleton laying in the bottom. Both trails are not only safer now but an easier climb for the touristas.

We completed the loop on the "new" extension of the Clay Mine Trail. We hiked it once right after they opened it and it now looks as if it has always been there. It cuts through the most beautiful half mile deposit of Jasper we've ever seen. Lots of quartz veining also. The should rename it the Jasper Trail as the Jasper Trail just to the east in the same park has absolutely no Jasper. :-k

Merry Christmas to all and to all a good hike. :)
