| no partners | | Our first return in 3 years to this pretty little slice of paradise. This had become Cathy's annual birthday hike of choice with a steak dinner to follow. Covid and illness had kept us away until now.
The weather was perfect and the Hassayampa was flowing just enough to be a nice visual and audible. This preserve is known for being a birders destination but all we saw was one empty nest and a Coot in Palm Lake. Wrong time of year for optimal bird watching at this location I guess. The checklist at the VC shows an impressive list of what can be seen here though. [ photo ]
The area wasn't quite as green as in years past but the pleasant smell of the Cottonwoods, cool shade, and smooth trails made for a fun and easy afternoon stroll. All the trails only add up to just over 3 miles but I recommend a stop here if you are in the area. |
