Cool start at 27 degrees but there was no wind so it didn't feel too bad. The trail conditions on this day were good, a little wet and muddy in some areas but to be expected. There was one down tree at the creek crossing close to the 3/4 mile point into the hike but easy enough to get around. Took note of the sections re-routed, very nice job! Saw a small herd of deer really close to the trail. At the 5 mile point we jumped onto the old trail alignment for a short ways and then located a use trail that took us up the 3826 ridge and down to East Diamond Spring. From there we followed the use trail down a drainage and up to the next ridge which took us up to O'Neil Spring where we had lunch and took a break. At that point we were in familiar territory, following the trail to FR 1697, connecting with a rancher trail, and then connecting back with the Sunflower Trail back to the TH. Saw two other hikers and two hunters on the day. Great hike. |
