Not just ones and twos, but large groups of people. I literally saw hundreds of people out on the trail. I knew it would be busy but had no idea it would be as busy as it was.
There was a new string of geocaches along the trail which is why I made it out here today. That and to find another cache atop an unnamed peak on the south end of the trail.
For climbing the peak, I left the trail where there was a way across a wash, then worked my way up to the peak. My route was fairly direct though I skirted a few bluffs. It was fairly steep and the ground loose enough that on the return I followed the ridge line down so I would more easily avoid sliding on my back side.
Once back to Butcher Jones picnic area, I decided to walk up the OHV entrance to the Rolls to find another geocache. The gate was closed, so it was fairly quiet and was nice to leave the crowds behind. |
