First was Border Mountain. Drove up an excellent dirt road above Robinson Lake and parked at the gate. From there, it was an easy walk up an old forest road. The plan was to head up to the ridge after the road ended, but the kids did not like the dense vegetation. Turned around and headed back down the road and headed to our second option.
Second was driving up Smith Creek, then Saddle Mtn Rd to the gate. From there, it was a super easy road walk to the border just beyond a hairpin turn. Found the border marker off the edge of the road, then wandered around looking at the views. While the walk up the road had been sunny, storm clouds were gathering, so we quickly headed down. Distant thunder became closer, and the breeze cooled. Got to the truck just as the first drops of rain fell. Rainy drive back out of the mountains.
Easy hiking and lots of nice scenery today. |
