Headed uphill with cool temps and we kept a comfortable pace. My first time hiking above 11k’ this year, and I could feel it once we were just below the saddle.
Light breeze at the summit, and some gnats, but we still took a break. Luckily the gnats weren’t interested in me, but they definitely liked Joe. Easy enough hike back down, although the tree roots and rocks hinder a steady pace.
Not too busy overall, but we did see a busload of poorly organized summer campers making an ill advised attempt at the hike. They were just barely starting shortly before 2pm and had about 2 liters of water for an entire group of at least two dozen teenagers. It would have been slightly entertaining to watch this misadventure play out. However, we were eager to get back to the 110+ temps in the Valley, so we wished them luck and finished up a few minutes later.
Good to see Joe and Lee again. Fun conversation and a good hike. |
