| partners | | The four of us got started around 0900 and headed up towards Kendrick. There were several cars in the parking area, but we didn’t see a whole lot of hikers or runners until the summit. More deadfall than I’d even seen on the main Kendrick before, but it was all easy to get over or around. I was dragging a little (crazy week) but made it up without too much whining. Had a snack break up top, enjoyed the views, then headed back down.
Once back at the trailhead, Chris & Wally decided to socialize, while Kelly & I headed over to Newman Hill. We took a direct route from the parking area, following a ridge up, which was fairly easy offtrail hiking. Higher up, it was straight up the side of Newman, which was very steep. No vegetation to deal with though. Once at the crater rim, we curved north to the high point. I really liked Newman—fun little peak, great views—and would return just to explore more of that area. Steep descent, but the misery was short lived and we were quickly back to the truck.
Fun day & fun group, very nice to get out of the heat. I-17 was surprisingly traffic free all the way back to the Valley. |
