Drive to the Cross F Trailhead
Easy paved drive with loads of parking at the new trailhead. One truck with a empty trailer was parked so they were already out enjoying the morning. Only the same truck when we returned. First time using the new gated AZT trail access.
Little Saddle Mountain Trail #244
Pushed off at 0640 to some brisk air. Enjoyed hearing and seeing some running water along the way. Although easy to navigate the trail was a little overgrown with some catsclaw and high grass as a result of the wet monsoon this summer. Shed some blood. Crossed paths with a single thru hiker as she was climbing over a dead tree across trail. Chatted a bit, she was from Oregon, then went on our ways.
Saddle Mountain #91
Was greeted by a field of wildflowers at the junction of the two trails, at the old corral location. Less overgrowth so easier hiking along a mostly level trail. Pushed through some of the thick brush around the mine location until we both decided to toss in the white flag. Dropped down to a ravine where some taller pines were growing and had lunch.
Even with the overgrowth on this trip, this is a great area. |
