Decided not to drive far on the Friday before Memorial Day . Saw 1 other vehicle in the horse lot and 2 in first water trail head lot, no traffic on First Water road, met 2 other hikers on the trail. Already warm early today fortunately still some shade on this route early in the day , breeze was barely present but still not an uncomfortable day, 86° when I finished. Saw 2 deer on the way to the spring moving too quickly for a good picture. Saw my first Gila monster this year and then a second going up to Garden Valley they were slow enough to allow a picture

. The pipe at Hackberry Spring had a trickle which was surprising. Surprised a few times also by rabbits jumping out next to the trail , saw about a dozen ,must be thriving on the new growth post burn in Garden Valley.
