| no partners | | I hiked peak 8488 in conjunction with peak 8217. Stats here are for both peaks. Peak 8217 is about 0.8 miles due East of Peak 8488.
I started at the Red Ridge trailhead off Ski Run Rd. When I got to the saddle, I looked up and could see where I wanted to go. There were 2 major spots along the hike up that had a lot of thick brush, especially thorned New Mexico locust. I brought cutters and did a lot of trimming along the way. That's why my elapsed time is so much longer than my moving time. At the peak, it started raining lightly. I didn't see a registry and I had a jar so I decided to leave a jar at the summit. Within a few minutes it was pouring hard. I put my rain jacket on and sat under a big bush and had my lunch. By the time I was done with lunch, the rainfall slowed considerably. On the way down, I hiked roughly the same way through the upper brushy area. When I got close to the lower brushy area, I was able to hike around it which was a faster and better way to go. I arrived back at the Red Ridge trail.
Next, I wanted to hike to Peak 8217. Looking over at it, I could see a cabin between me and the peak. I didn't know where the property lines were. I hiked along the ridgeline and when I got close to the cabin I didn't see any vehicles. I hiked to the private road and took that past the cabin. The road led a few hundred feet up to what looked like a separate lot. When I got to the second lot, the rain started again, but this time the rain was heavier and there was marble sized hail. I got shelter near a tree and waited about 15 minutes for the heavy rain to stop. Then, I walked up the steep grade to the top of the peak. From the peak, I had great views of Summerhaven and I could see the radio towers on Mt Lemmon.
