After lunch, Tim and I continued down the Sutherland trail. We eventually got to the start of the Samaniego Ridge trail after about 1/3 mile of hiking. We continued on that trail for roughly 1/4 miles and found ourselves on the West side of Peak 8046 about 200 feet away from the summit. When the grade leveled off a bit, we did a short 2 minute open Country hike to the summit. There was no brush along the way, just some short grass and a few huge juniper trees. When we got close to the summit, I saw a few deer running away from us, down the hill to the North. By the time I got my camera into video mode, they were already too far away. At the summit, there was a big log for sitting on, a large flat open area with several pine trees around for shade. We thought this would have been a good area to camp. |
