| partners | | When we hiked La Milagrosa Ridge the other week I mentioned I would like to explore La Milagrosa Canyon, well today we did. Thought this would be a good time to explore the canyon with the recent rains. It actually didn't look like it rained much here at least not enough to get the creek flowing. Probably a good thing because the canyon is difficult enough to maneuver without dealing with water flow. Some pooling along the creek. Beautiful canyon. Made it upstream about 1.5 to 2 miles from where the Milagrosa Ridge trail crosses the creek, no major obstacles in the creek bed. Looks like you could go another half mile before coming up against an area that may not be easily passable.
Saw remains of a deer that was probably killed by a mountain lion also saw some scat that could of been mountain lion and lots of it, I think this was a favorite hunting spot near a pool of water.
I went with 6.5 miles for this hike, my GPS read 6.1 Ginny's route scout said 6.8 so we split the difference. Not sure why the route scout reads different than my garmin, usually when we are going at a slower pace as in this creek or a steep climb. The route scout usually reads more. On a fairly level hike where the pace is faster we get similar readings. Maybe it's because she's shorter than me. |
