Ginny and I visited another section of Cienega Creek, again at Pantano Station. This time we headed west (downstream). With this section complete Ginny has completed 40 miles of the 50 miles of Cienega Creek. This is another one of Arizona's great riparian areas. Lots of history going back the Hohokam Indians that lived in the area around 1100 AD. Saw lots of wildlife this time, Two cows, 2 coatimundis, Two deer, and one blue heron. For me this trip was easier because of the creek wasn't running as high (can be quite difficult when running) The creek was running in two areas on this trip. A permit from Pima County is required while hiking Cienega Creek Preserve, about 20 miles of the 50 mile Cienega Creek (available on line.)
