| no partners | | From a BLM boat-in campsite across from Parker Dam, I hiked to the top of this hill, which had a very nice view from the top. I could see up the arm of the lake known as Bill Williams River (where the lake inundates the original creek bed). I could see Parker Dam, which impounds the Colorado River, creating Lake Havasu. And I could see up the lake (or upriver, if you prefer) quite a distance.
A friend and I camped a couple of nights at the boat-in campsite. There are over 100 of these sites on the Arizona side of the lake, south of the city. They mostly all have pit toilets, picnic tables, trash cans, a bit of Bermuda grass lawn, a sandy beach, etc. Very comfy. $10 a night into the "iron ranger." Unlike Lakes Mead and Powell, Lake Havasu is never maintained at a super low level. It is basically always full. This makes it a much more pleasant place to visit--no bathtub ring, no nasty, goopy beaches full of dirty silt. Here are some nice sunset photos and a triplog about the camping and paddling part of the adventure: [ photoset ]
Lake Havasu State Park also shares some territory in this area. It looks as though I hiked into the park land from the BLM land. |
