My first time to Pass Mountain. The trip to the summit was pretty smooth. No one was there when I arrived. Took me twice as long to get down as I had to dodge countless kids and co-eds.....

Started at FW and headed to Boulder Canyon via Second Water trail. Took the route north of Battleship to La Barge Creek then boulder hopped down to the Box. From there we went over the south saddle of Battleship, down Boulder Creek and back up Second Water to the FW trailhead. Not a bad trip considering it was about 86 degrees when we returned to the car.

Took a nice Cinco de Mayo trip down to the Huachucas to climb Carr Peak with my cousin and some of his co-workers. Started off well enough but ran into some serious wind on the backside. Gusts of at least 75mph almost blew us right over. Great views from the top on a very clear day.

Seems like I do this hike once a month. Anyhoo, took a group from takeahike AZ up Wasson via Kings Canyon Trail. Nice easy walk.

Not sure if this was the exact trail I took but I took off from this trailhead. Meandered south towards some retirement community and then eastish up over some ridges and then back to the jeep. Probably closer to 6 miles than 5.

Started at the trailhead, went to the Esparero junction then down Esparero to it's trailhead then back to the Bajada trail. Down Bajada to the road then out to Sus picnic area and finally back to the parking lot. A lot of wandering around but a pretty solid hike.

Did this one to burn off a few calories over the holidays. From what I saw half of Phoenix had the same idea. Made it up and down in 1 hour, 5 minutes despite having to dodge old ladies, kids and heavy smoking tourists.....

Took this trail on the way up to Rosewood peak. Very nice day with highs around 75. Got there pretty early and only saw a few people on the way up. A couple hours later, on the way down, it was the opposite. I think I passed 50 people in the 1.5 miles between the peak trail and the parking lot. Anyhoo, we bushwacked our way all the way to the top through endless fields of shindaggers. The view was amazingly clear and you could see the entire valley and beyond.

I guess this was the hike I did.

I started out at the Gates Pass trailhead under a thick layer of early morning fog. Initially, I hiked up to the junction and then made a right and started my way around the mountain. About halfway (I think) I turned back and returned to the junction. From there I took the Golden Gate trail (or what there is of it) towards the upper parking area. Along the way I climbed some rocks and took a few minutes to watch the fog settle in Avra valley. It looked like a sea of clouds with mountain islands poking through. I walked all the way down to the parking area climbing whatever peak that is just south of it. Saw two nice size does along the way and could have been eating good for a year if I had a bow.....
After reaching the parking area I went back down around the backside of the hills bushwacking all the way. Think I startled a couple of tourists in the parking lot when I came flying out of a wash.

Took a nice little walk up Picacho. Saw a bunch of people from SAHC doing razorback. rain clouds came down pretty quick so we only spent a few minutes on top.

Took the low route in going past the pictographs. Nice clear day for the hike with highs in the 70's. Saw about 50 school kids on top of wasson.

Went up Silly to check on a geocache I stashed there a couple years back. Went up main trail then over ridgeline to backside where the hiding spot it. Everything looked solid. Saw a guy letting his dogs poop all over and was somewhat disheartened.....

Did Shaw as part of a larger jaunt through the North Mountain area with the future fater in-law. went from the visitor center around trail 306, up the butte, down to the 100 and then looped around a few times (we were lost) until we got back to the vc. about 5 miles in all in about 1 hour 40 minutes.

I needed an easy spot to take my fiance for her first desert hike and this fit the bill. Not a whole lot to this one, a little up and down over the ridge line, some cholla and a so-so view. Also, you could hear traffic off Kinney road the whole time. If I was alone I wouldn't have taken this trail but it served it's purpose. With so many more interesting/challenging hikes in the area I probably won't be back to Brown Mountain.

The distance is just an estimation but should be fairly accurate. Walked up a wide wash from a pull off in Suguaro west (Kinney RD I think). walked about 1.5 miles up stream to the "arraster." This area was a mining camp way back and there are several open shafts, a stockade, some foundations and 4 arrasters - which are areas used for grinding ore. Personally, I would have never know what they were if there wasn't someone familiar with them on the trip. From there we headed back downstream a bit and then back up another wash to "Dusty Falls." The falls are about 15-20 feet high. Not bad for the Tucson mountains. After climbing around on the falls we headed back overland to the cars. It was a nice, easy hike and I learned a lot about the area.

So, for the second weekend in a row I did the Sweetwater trail. I know, seems like I'm in a bit of a hiking rut but this was a special occasion. A group of people from the SAHC got together and did the full moon night hike. It was actually pretty sweet (much better than doing it in full day light). The moon was so bright that we didn't need to use flash lights at all (although I did a couple times just to be safe). Nice views from the top of the city at night. Actually saw a few people along the way including one guy who was solo at night.

My second trip up Wasson in 2 weeks. Despite what the description says I found quite a bit of shade on this trail. Of course, I was out at 7 am so the sun was pretty low on the horizon. Anyhoo, this baby seemed to meander on forever. It's kind of frustrating when the peak is right in front of you and it looks like you could just burn right up it. The trail was pretty decent, not as chewed up from horses as the Sendaro but honestly, the hike isn't that great. Maybe next weekend I'll try to come in from Kings Canyon and see if that's any better.

Had a free morning so I decided to check out the area. I had heard a lot about Wasson peak and had already done Sombrero so I picked this trail. That first mile in the loose sand was kind of a pain. It's not really my favorite surface but the trail was wide and easy. The first set of switchbacks were serely chewed up by horses and water and were a little difficult to get good footing on (mostly on the return trip down). After that it was smooth sailing. I made the summit from the parking area in about an hour and twenty minutes. On the way back I made a side trip up Anole peak and the returned to the car. Only saw 6 other people on the trail and had the peak all to my self.
