Roger's Son Brett down from SD for the week and wanted a couple of short hikes. We took him over Usery Peak 2972, stopped by HAZ's Jeep, they used to use for Ubber Rides to the various Trail Heads, Joe had turned it in as stolen, but the Police still have no leads, and the Insurance wouldn't pay the claim, and all of our Members have everyone's back so that's the story of why we now have to find our own way to the Trail Heads. Went up and said Hi to Crazy Horse then to the old Mine. Looked around no nuggets, went NW to the next ridge over and walked NE on the Wild Horse Ridge. Came up on the Coin Cairn and then further on another Coin Cairn, remember one of the HAZ'ers saying he put the 1st one down so in case his kids would never be broke, but had to get up on the Ridge to find it. :) Interesting Hike, seen a big Deer jumping along to get over the next wash so we couldn't take a picture, Roger thought it was a Jackrabbit --- Brett and I just looked at each other and kept on hiking :)

Well Grasshopper snagged us again :) with the tease of another Arch. Little did we know how many we would encounter, lost track, they were everywhere and every size, but the Mother of them all, the Tower Arch was the highest of them all. If you enjoy the smooth lichen covered rock of the Goldfields, this to us has so much more character and shapes that we enjoyed while in the Goldfields. We were on Grasshoppers route when Roger wanted to check out a spring he thought was across the creek, but as soon as we crossed we came upon a horse trail . Wait, this was noted on CannondaleKid's triplog of 2012, OK let's follow and come up the backside and meet up with Grasshopper's rte. But sad to say when we did meet up we didn't pay attention and missed going up to the saddle for the Tower Arch viewpoint :( ](*,) :sorry:  . So we opted to miss Peak 4054 and go around and pick up his route on the way back to catch the Arch. So glad we did, but if you go, don't get discouraged if you can't see the Arch from the saddle, we thought what the hay where is it, route looked like it went down and around, which was precarious to do, I said let's go up a couple of shelves that were behind us and check it out, sure enough as we turned around and looked up there it was  :y: We'll be back out to explore Woods Canyon again for sure., Thanks Grasshopper for the idea and route.

Wanted something not so rocky this week, between that and cabin fever the trail was busy today. Hadn't been to Saddle Cave for quite awhile, was a perfect choice. Hate to do the loop, just to rocky on the southeast side. Met a couple from Gilbert just getting into hiking of course had to show them RS and also urged them to signup with our Favorite " HAZ "

Brad called, wanted to go for a ride, never one to turn down getting out of the house. Hiked one time with rtaylor3235 north of El Camino Del Oro Community back into the Castro Ranch area. We got back to Peralta Rd and he went in behind Gold Canyon, what a trail system and 4x4 routes. Thoroughly enjoyed the ride and looking forward to hiking the area behind G C and up to the base of the Superstitions.

 Brads back from MN let's go !! Finally made it to the end of Joe's Official White Canyon Route :y: Water down just enough to make it thru the boulders that stopped us before. If it wasn't for all of the limbs and brush that stacked up blocking the way in several places, it would have made it more accessible, but hey if it was easy----everyone would be doing it, and you all know what that means :M2C: it was oh so worth it, throw in the Bat Cave and this will be one of my favorite hikes, need to check out other hikes in the area on HAZ, Mr Grasshopper again this time your Tower Arch Hike will be next on the list. Again thanks to everyone that post routes and or at least have photo locations on, I have used that feature many times to get a general idea HAZ Rocks !!!!

Another nice hike for Tom and Teressa and Brooks before they go back to the cold country MN and IA. Been thru Willow Creek Canyon many times, but after we got thru I looked back and something was not the same, the heavy rains carried some huge rocks away from where I remembered ( WOW ) what force of nature.

Wanted to take Brooks somewhere different, so we went to 3 Trailheads for a variety of Jeeping in the middle of nowhere. We first started at the Haunted Canyon TH then went over to Miles Ranch TH. Got to Miles and already a car there, we decided to take a short 4 mile hike out and back on West Pinto Trail 212, met the hikers from the car at the TH they went out to the Spencer Trl and returned. Got into the Woodbury Fire area, what a shame, but the under growth is starting back. Creek was running good, but a lot of dirt and sand has been washed down by the rains. Then we went over to find Cuff Button TH ( that was fun, never been there ), road was ok up to the Horrell Ranch, but after that we turned on 305, it was a jeep lovers delight, nothing hard but rocky and slow didn't need a 4x4 but needed high clearance in some areas. Made it to Cuff Button and turned around to make the slow ride out of there. The route I attached is only from the old Iron Bridge to the various Trailheads and return to the bridge. Had a great day in the woods

Spotted 3 sheep from the area of my posted pic, little to far to get a good shot of them. Enjoyed the hike as it had been awhile in the area.

Been 3 years since I was at Tony's Cabin with Rick and his son Dustin, Wanted to show Roger something new, so I thought he would find the cabin interesting. Nice trip thru the Mine area and to the TH. Headed out and found the log crossing Pinto Creek, kind of shaky, but managed to stay dry. Everything went fine until we came up to a rope across the trail, no worries I said, just to keep the horses off the steep, slippery screed portion, after crawling hand and knees up and up i says, this is not right :scared: Had to get my pole out just to feel somewhat safe going back down !! On the way down a couple hollered up and asked if the views were great ( never got to the top to answer) They were gone by the time we made it down. Got back on the trail- Duh -
Well we made it to the next creek crossing, but over our boots, wasn't our day turned around and said we'll be back with water sandals next time, but all in all a great hike.

Since we tried Joe's lower Route into W C last time, ( and got watered out ) thought we'd try Mr Grasshopper's route for his W C upper route. It was great, the views were fantastic, weather beautiful, and great company. Wanted to give Brad a hike before he went back to MN for a few weeks. Maybe when he returns we can get Joe's Hike accomplished.

Time for something new and exciting, checked out Joe's description of this Canyon sounds doable. Headed out and signed in at the TH, looks like when route was made it was dry and they walked right up the wash. This time was full of water and a lot of detours and scrambling :) Was a secluded Canyon had all to ourselves, got stopped about 2 miles in :( water was just to high to maneuver between and underneath the huge boulders, had a snack and said we would be back.

Had to go out and check one of our favorite photo-op destinations, didn't let us down, was still there in all it's glory.
Last time here was to icy to get up to the Arch. While taking a break at the Arch we watched the rescue helicopter working
his magic on the Base Jumper. I showed the route as one way, this route is the most direct as any we've done. Put a few cairns
up along the way. Hope you enjoy as much as we have.

Rick's Son, Dustin is visiting from the U P Michigan, wanted to do some camping and hiking. We scouted out Miles TH last month and determined if we are to camp there it has to be during the week to have some solitude :) . Showed up mid morning on Monday and :o only one spot left to set up camp :pout: We made the best of the situation and it turned out, no problem, was all quite around us. After we set up camp, gathered all the camp wood, we set out on West Pinto to Cuff Button and returned. Met a young lady heading up to Oak flats to set up camp, found out she was part of the Arizona Conservation Corps, and rest of the group was joining her on Tuesday. The plan was to scout out all the trails in the area, and process them for future trail maintenance this summer and have work done by next fall. :D Also all the other camp sites were occupied by Wilderness Volunteers planning on working this week on Trail Maintenance, Monday they finished Paradise Trail, Tuesday they were heading up Bull Basin Trail to the saddle. So looks and sounds like Miles TH will be busy hosting work crews this summer. According to their Web site, Champaign Trail is on the agenda this week. Tuesday Bull Basin Loop was our chosen hike. Wow hats off to all that has done this :) When they say steep, they mean steep !!! Got to Haunted Canyon finally :scared: took the side trip over to Tony's. While there we met 3 yes 3 state workers from the Fishery Dep't, checking if there were any fish my the stream next to the cabin, talk about time wasted management :( :? Great time can't wait to get back.
