| partners | | I met Preston (kingsnake) at the Parks Rd exit of I-17 around 9:30am and from there we proceeded to the trailhead off FR131 east of the "main" TH according to HAZ and the 100 Classic Hikes in AZ book. We then did the loop counterclockwise because Preston thought it better to get KA Hill out of the way early on while we weren't tired yet. Good call.
The temps were lower 80s at the start while it was sunny. Soon after we started, the clouds and intermittent rain came along. We heard more thunder than anything. The rain came and went in waves. At one point we pulled out the ponchos, but by the time we got them out, the rain was already letting up. Overall it was nice because the wind and cloud cover cooled the temps down to the lower 70s, much much better than in Phoenix, I'm sure.
At the canyon we saw a pretty large group of people who were hanging out and rappelling down the canyon walls. The views into the canyon along the southern portion of this loop were definitely the best.
Afterwards I made to my hotel in Williams, had dinner at Cruisers Cafe 66, uploaded these pics, and got to bed for my early start on Bill Williams Mt. |
