| no partners | | With memories of Santa Boots going up Battleship last year I decided that this would be the hike of the day. Weather was fantastic. I only saw about half a dozen people on the trails even though the First Water Trailhead parking lot was pretty full.
As I made the final approach up to Battleship I crossed paths with another hiker named Ed. He was in town to enjoy the weather and get in some nice hikes. We chatted as we made our way up towards the top. Ed is from Chicago. Once up top at the infamous "bridge" Ed decided that he wasn't comfortable going across. I assured him it would be okay and that I would wait and guide him over. He was past that by now as his mind had already told him it wasn't going to happen.
I continued on my way and hit the summit shortly later. Views of Canyon Lake are killer from the top. Then back down I went and found Ed still at the bridge waiting for me. I thought maybe he would want to give it a go and said I would go back up if he wanted to do it. Nope he was content on turning back.
We hiked back together to where second water meets boulder canyon. Along the way he mentioned wanting to do Aylors Arch and a couple others in the Supes. I asked how he was familiar with all these hikes since he doesn't live here. He replied.... I found them on this great web site called "HikeArizona"! I smiled and said yes I know of it and use it all the time. He then said of all the Hiking websites he has ever been on it was by far the best. I replied that I haven't been on many but I certainly agree!
Ed is going to come back next year and plans on possibly attempting battleship again. I gave him my contact information and said I would be happy to go along if he would like....
It was a great hike. Merry Christmas my fellow HAZ friends! |
