There were tales of blue water paradise up north but that trip got postponed. I had already taken the day off and Castle Dome in the Superstitions was on the short list so the plan was set. Denny was willing to give it a try so we left early to beat the heat. We started hiking about 6:30a and by 8a sized up the climb. The initial approach was easy but the cliff band looked dangerous. We followed the fence line up and went straight at the summit. There seemed to be a route in places and when we arrived at the cliff band a tree and a gap between the rock gave us a decent spot to climb. A slip at this point could be Castle Doom but a longer but safer route coming from the south and following the ridge is available. The summit is small but the views at the top are nice. Denny was not liking my idea of a steep drop back to the trail so we followed the ridge south toward Windy Pass and found that to be much easier. On the hike down we found a flat area with a pot sherd which I believe was a small ruin. From here the smart thing to do would be to hike out the trail but I saw this other ruin on an old map that I've never been too so why not add a few off trail miles while we're here? The terrain looks good from the summit but the grassy slopes have rocks underneath and enough friction to make it feel like hiking in snow. We hiked around and checked out a few slopes before I pulled out my GPS and we made our way toward the area on the map. While I had my nose on the GPS, Denny spotted a wall in the grass. We hiked over to the walls and checked out the ruin. The ruin is large like circlestone but the walls are only 2 feet high. After looking around a while we made our way back to the trail. At one point I lost Denny and circled back to find him. We were just on the opposite side of a slope. ](*,) I thought maybe turtle fell on his back and couldn't roll over. :o After the small miscue it was double time back to the trailhead. Thanks for the burger and hiking Denny.
