| no partners | | I took this loop to look for a cave and some more mines. The morning was nice with light clouds that lasted most of the day. I started out just before 7a taking Bluff Spring trail to Terrapin and then up the west side of Bluff Spring Mountain to look for a cave. I saw an opening high up and that was in the right area but after getting up to it no dice. I checked a slope and found a few large cairns but not much else. Next I hiked up to an alcove off trail that looked better from a distance. Finally I hiked down into Needle Canyon but the 1st mine eluded me. I did find an old overgrown trail with several cairns but it led back to Terrapin trail so no luck. The next move was hiking up Needle Canyon. I found an old camp and a long mining spud. There should be 2 other mines nearby but I passed on the pushing through the overgrowth. I hiked up toward Bluff Spring Mountain once more and found a few other prospects but nothing very impressive. It was now nearing 12p and I was low on water so the decision was to start hiking out. On the trip out Peralta trail I saw a gila monster and several hikers from the saddle back to the trailhead. |
