There had just been some thunderstorms and when I got there it was empty. Good. Pam was coming down to camp with me there, so I wanted to be sure spots were available. I was prepared to spend Thursday night there, but decided to head back home and come down Friday morning. That worked fine, as when I got there next morning at 0630, still nobody around. Set up my camp and waited for Pam to show up from Phoenix. She got there a bit later than I expected, and we decided to just chill that day. It was her first time to the Santa Rita Mountains, so for a starter, we explored the Nature Trail from the parking area across from the turnoff to the campground down to Proctor Road and the observation area. We did the short side trip to a small waterfall nearby, though the water flow was just a trickle (unlike last year with Cindy).
Needless to say the summer rains had things greened up to the max and looking its best! Heat, sweat, insane humidity, and chiggers galore in those tall grasses! Tropical madness in full late summer glory. Love it! |
