In fact we pretty much had the place to ourselves as there was only one other site occupied. This was Kelly's first time to the Huachuca Mountains, so I enjoyed showing her around a bit. After meeting in Tucson, we drove down along the scenic route through Sonoita and up the mountain to set up camp. Then we did the hike up to Carr Peak, with plenty of flower action along the way enjoy. The monsoon storms were rather isolated, so the first part of the hike was pretty warm on the mostly exposed trail. We finally had some decent cloud cover to help by the time we made the peak. It was a warm and peaceful evening and night with virtually no wind. Next morning we took our time breaking camp, enjoying breakfast and coffee, then drove over to the other campground area, for the bigger hike to Hamburg and Pat Scott Canyon. The two hikes are quite different so it made for a good introduction for Kelly. |
