Following an enjoyable evening in camp Friday, Pam suggested we do this loop hike Saturday, with no particular rush to hit the trail. Initially I thought about maybe heading up to the Crest Trail or Wrightson, but our conditioning level argued against that. Besides, we were out for the photography not a killer workout. We never could have beaten thunderstorm development in that mode, and the high ridges aren't where you want to be if it gets overly electrical.

I suggested we hike this clockwise, saving the steep road return for last. Most people prefer to do it the other way, but I thought this would work best for us (didn't want Pam to burn out on that somewhat boring steep road). This actually worked out good, since we hit Bog Spring early enough that the birds were still quite active. I hadn't been on this part of the loop in about 6 years, and had forgotten how much climbing you do after leaving Bog Spring. :o The views on this trail are outstanding once you pull out of the canyon! I pointed out Roger's Rock before it disappeared from view as you drop to Kent Spring.

We took a nice long break at Kent Spring before heading down that steep road back to the campground. The stream was flowing as usual to make it more interesting. I showed Pam the Kent Spring Cabin that can be rented out from the Forest Service. It is just a short distance off the trail. It is near that cabin that I got my only photos of a Trogon many years ago. :)

Just as we were almost back to camp, a couple of rumbles of thunder were heard up around Wrightson, but the weak storm didn't last long and it turned out to be quiet the rest of the day. :(
