| no partners | | Knowing I will likely be hiking out Organ Pipe way next weekend, figured I better get with the program and do a hike today (as opposed to just thinking about). An old favorite, and one that I guessed wouldn't have Easter crowds. Good call and a test for me all the way around, especially with a late start on a warm day. As expected, my lack of conditioning became apparent as I headed up the Hugh Norris part on my way to Wasson. Made it alright, but took a long break on top in one of the few shady spots available. On the way down both my knees were turning up the pain, so I popped two vitamin I's and eventually things got better.
Because of the knees, I was not able to keep the pace I usually do on the downhill, which was rough because of the extra time out in the full sun. I had to take another break at Mam-A-Gah, but finished strong. All in all a good day. We'll see how I feel tomorrow.
The cholla, ocotillo, and hedgehogs were putting on a good show today. Along the higher sections of the Hugh Norris past Amole Peak, etc. the chollas were just starting to show spring growth with no blooms. |
