| partners | | Great hike with arizonahikers group -- some of the gang were nursing a few injuries and long breaks from hiking so a strong pace was not one of the objectives -- my goal was to get everyone to 1st Water safely. That mission was accomplished well...perhaps a the hike too a tad longer than what was hoped for but all in all -- it was another wonderful day in the Superstitions and some good trail time to reconnect and share our stories.
This just ended up as the 2014 "Chicks with Sticks" hike ....we missed you Trish! Angela has already documented the event well ...so I will add just a few of my observations. I had much time to stop and look around many vantage points -- it was nice to have the luxury to stop and enjoy the sounds of nature -- the chirping of the hummers, call of hawk, tricking of water and the rustling of grasses...I spied many a nests and had time to look into them and marvel at the ingenuity of the birds in how they make secure nests. I had the time to watch the light catch the fading fall leaves tenuously hanging on to few trees along the creek, the white fuzz on the saguaro tips waiting to burst forth with new growth as the weather warms and watched the lizard their pushups on sun warmed rocks. I enjoyed the time and chance to reconnect rather than watch the clock and push the pace...perhaps we should slow down from time to time.
It was welcoming to see Ranger Jack at the TH, the crantinis that Angela brought hit the spot well and some of us wrapped a beautiful day with some good grub at the Canyon Lake Marina ( BTW the folks down there are big Broncos fans!) and close the day watching a wonderful sunset unfold over the lake ... AZ Rocks!  |
