We planned to hike the Black Mesa Loop from 1st water TH, then added the hike to Aylor's Arch. At the Dutchman Trail-Black Mesa trail junction, we scattered to find cairns leading to the wash on the west side of Palomino Mountain. Once, in the wash, we found a more orderly trail of cairns to the point where we could see the arch. At that point we followed cairns to the saddle just below the mailbox. We had lopers, so cleared foliage as we climbed. We found the foliage to be less dense that we had anticipated and the climb easier as well. This is a great hike/climb and I recommend it to anyone to take in the wonder and beauty of the area. We did see what we thought to be a 'silver fox' that ran from the area as we approached the gap leading to the saddle.
