Hiked around 5pm (should have started 30 minutes later) - and parking lot was practically empty. Never seen it so quiet - and park doesn't close until 7:45 this time of year! We hiked with one of Caroline's friends from school and her parents and then we all had dinner at Pinnacle Peak Patio afterwards.

I have something sad to post that we saw on the trail :cry:

- about 3 weeks ago a 16 year old from Gilbert brought a machete and hacked off the end of the saguaro arm that is at eye level in the first 1/2 mile from the TH. Anyone who has hiked this trail will recognize the particular saguaro. I have pictures back 10 years of this lovely, twisting saguaro and now it's been chopped off.

From two sources I heard that they caught him before he finished the hike and hand cuffed him on the spot. Just awful to destroy nature - and I'm glad he was caught. I know that @SunRay and @tibber will know the saguaro that was vandalized.
