| no partners | | I've been on a summer hiking streak lately (compared to most summers post-kids) - I've figured out a way to sneak in a Sunday hike if I'm motivated and I don't drink too much the night before.
If I start the hike around 4:45 or 5:00am - and get home by 6:30am or 7:00 - then the kids are asleep while I'm gone and husband doesn't have to wake up to watch them.
So I got to TH right at 4:45am and it took a while for the gate to open. Then I got scared and couldn't get out of the car until it got a little lighter outside and another car drove up. So I didn't really start until 5ish.
Was 90 degrees with 38% humidity - I was super slow after yesterday's gym workout plus Sunrise hike plus two drinks at dinner. Made it to East End intersection in my worst time ever 38:36. But it was still a great hike - the light in the morning on the granite ridgeline is just incredible.
And I saw a *ringtail* scampering all around the boulders - my pictures are crap - can't really see him. But that was a first in the McDowells. Parking lot had about 8 cars in it by the time I got back down. And at home - kids had just woken up - somehow they magically watched a movie while eating breakfast and were totally self-contained and quiet. So I got a shower and mini-nap before church. |
