So I could not resist the chance to hike my favorite north Tom's Thumb as exercise before a long day of travel (car ride with kids) to the White Mountains for our family vacation.
Got to the TH just before 5:00am - gate wouldn't open even though car was almost touching it. Two other cars had been there about 10 minutes. So I went around the gate and used my body to activate the motion sensor and then ran/jumped back to the car to get through. Felt a little Wonder-Womanish: like when WW would jump over something in slow motion and I could hear the sound effect reverbing in my head - kids of the '70s will know the sound I am talking about. (Example of the sound here: http://youtu.be/JX9rK9CNnbw)
Anyway - was still pre sunrise and caught few mule deer in a favorite breakfast area. Was very humid so my time to East End was not great.
Trail was washed away in some steep sections - lots of sand erosion and mini-arroyos. You could see that the washes were running big time the night before. Trail is usually very firm but this morning was slippery-mushy in spots.
Got back home just as kids and husband were waking up - ready to pack up for our trip! Glad I was not driving . . . . |
